Evalution Showcases New Single “Scratch” via WUBAHOLICS

Tampa native Evan Cazes, better known as Evalution, has been making waves in the electronic scene for a few years now. Starting out as a young musician, he quickly began developing his musical taste that has shaped his production into what it is today. From his elevated sound design, to incorporating the guitar, bass and drums into his music, Evaluation has created an incredible sound that sets him apart from the rest. Today, August 29, his hot new track “Scratch” from his upcoming EP On Demand, premiered with Headbang Society on Soundcloud. From the catchy lyrics to the hypnotizing bass, Scratch is without a doubt going to be a favorite from this new EP. We sat down with Evalution to dive deep into his new tune, tour life and his inspiration from the EP. Read the full Q+A below:

“Scratch features some of my most obscure sound design yet, a history lesson on CDs, and some samples from the iconic movie ‘The Ringer’. The first drop hits more on the wobbly side, second drop more on the thumpy head boppin side – everybody wins.” -Evalution

DIVING DEEP W/ EVALUTION

1) How has your previous musical knowledge and ability to play instruments such as the guitar and the piano, influenced your sound as an electronic music producer?

I grew up playing multiple instruments and taking lessons, which taught me a lot about music theory and has definitely shaped my production. Even though I make bass music, my tracks are very melodic, and I think this stems from my musical background. I love sound design but at the end of the day, I believe a good melody is what hooks the listener and most resonates with me personally.

2) From playing EDC Orlando, to joining Mersiv on his new Out of Bounds tour, to playing direct support for Subtronics, you are currently crushing show life. How has your life as a musician changed since playing shows of this caliber?

Being able to open for some of my biggest influences/playing at bucket list venues has been super inspiring – not just when I’m on stage, but when I’m in the studio. Some of my best tracks come after playing a big show, and I’m just insanely grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. Stoked for these upcoming shows with Mersiv!

3) Your new EP “On Demand”, comes out August 30, featuring an exciting tune called “Scratch”. You stated that you included some samples from the movie, “The Ringer”, where did the inspiration for this come from?

I’ve always loved Johnny Knoxville and the whole Jackass crewgrowing up and this movie was one of my favorites as a kid. I wanted to keep the EP’s core theme focused around movies/television, which is why I incorporated a bunch of my favorite samples featured throughout all of the tunes!

4) How do you believe your sound design has progressed over the years to get to where you are now?

I think sound design involves a lot of trial-and-error until you figure out how to properly manipulate your synth and figure out what direction you want to take with your sound. Now that I’m five years into producing, it feels nice being able to open Ableton and know how to put my ideas down on paper so to speak. This EP is a little more outside the box in terms of sound design, but it still has a heavy focus on songwriting and I’m excited for everyone to hear it!

5) What is the message you hope listeners take away from your new EP?

I just hope these tracks resonate with people and that they enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them. I designed these tunes so that each track flows right into the next, so listen from start to finish! On top of that, “On Demand” is a metaphor about how quickly disposable content/art is right now. Everyone has all of this new music “On Demand” at the tip of their fingertips, and I think it almost diminishes the impact of releases. To clarify, It’s not trying to be negative by any means. Times are always changing and evolving, and I’m always willing to accept and adapt. I’m just curious to see the lasting impact this has on music/culture in the future. Thank you guys for chatting with me and go stream ON DEMAND – OUT 8/30 ON WUBAHOLICS

Dukez X Myto Bring the Bass w/ New Track “Fully Loaded”

Dukez X Myto Bring the Bass w/ New Track “Fully Loaded”

The underground is alive and stronger than ever thanks to the continuous rise and development of artists who are here to raise the bar for those to come after them. Two individuals that come to mind are Dukez & Myto. They help showcase this exact concept we speak of with the release of their newest collaborative single “Fully Loaded”. If you’re looking to get on a wild auditory rollercoaster full of switch-ups and turns at every angle, then this track was made exclusively for you. We can’t remember the last time we had this much fun replaying a track over and over due to its raw ability to always present new elements at each drop. Now its time to take a deeper dive as to what makes this track what we like to call, a certified bop.

“I’m here to hopefully bring joy and pleasure to all of your ear holes and send you through a mystical, majestic, journey into your own mind with some of my weird sounds. What you’ll find here is music with no rules, no genre restrictions, no holding back. My objective with this project is to fill your mind with freeform music therapy in hopes that you have a better day after listening.”

DIVING DEEP W/ MYTO

1. Fully Loaded is the first collaboration between your projects. Was it easy to find a workflow together when writing this track? What elements and inspirations did you bring to this track when you wrote it?
This collab went super smooth. We essentially had three iterations sent back and forth, each one being pretty non committal. It was nice to be working on a project where I could focus on pushing the envelope rather than trying to fit into the song.
2. Did you encounter any challenges or roadblocks when collaborating on Fully Loaded? If so, how did you overcome them to make this track its final form?
We ended up changing the arrangement a few times, but nothing that impeded our workflow. I think we’re both versatile enough to work with whatever is thrown at us.
3. Where do you hope to see your project 5 years from now? What are you doing presently to make this dream a reality?
In 5 years, I hope to be teaching, preforming, and continuing to produce music that can’t be defined. I just love ableton.
4. What is up next for each of your projects? What do you have planned in the near future that fans have to look forward to?
My newest EP, DIEGETIC releases on August 7th! It’s a foray higher tempos, dnb, and atmospheric composition. I’ll be doing a lot of sample heavy and analog production following this EP- I plan on taking the project to a more timeless sound.
Whales & Fytch Surpass Their Limits w/ New Melody “Beyond”

Whales & Fytch Surpass Their Limits w/ New Melody “Beyond”

One of the electronic scenes most captivating dubstep artists is on a mission to takeover the hearts and minds of many with his highly anticipated album “Two Worlds Apart”. Tal, better known by his stage name as Whales, blesses the world with his 3rd single from his forthcoming LP with the track “Beyond”. This single serves as a beautiful showcase of the talent behind one of Israel’s very own with the help behind collaborative effort Fytch. If you’re looking to garner inspiration and aspiration for life , this is the perfect sound remedy you have been looking for to set you back on the right path. Now it’s time to take a deeper dive as to what makes this track what we like to call, a certified bop.

I’ve been a huge fan of Fytch for over a decade. I can still remember being 14 years old, completely blown away by his song “In These Shadows”. His musical skills and the way he crafts his harmonies in songs really stuck with me and inspired me. I followed his music for years until we eventually became friends. I wasted no time telling him how much I’d love to collaborate, but I never had a song that felt worthy of sending him until one magical day. It was 4 am, and I found myself alone in the studio with no distractions—no phone, no music, no lights. Out of nowhere, I started humming the guitar melody and then the lead in the drop. I quickly recorded a voice note of it and by 6 am, I had most of the idea figured out. I even named the demo “6am”. From the moment I started working on it, I knew Fytch was the perfect match. It had that emotional depth I knew he could take to the next level. So, I sent him the demo without hesitation. He liked it, but due to some other commitments, he couldn’t work on it for almost a year. Since the album is all about my roots, musical influences, and inspirations, it just felt right to have Fytch involved.”

  1. Collaborating with an Israeli counterpart must hold a special place in your heart, is there a message your wish to portray to those outside the country by teaming up w/ CURE97 on this single?

I think everybody is so busy trying to make it big worldwide, across the ocean, while some of us are coming from small countries full of soul and talented people, like CURE97. I had already met CURE97 10 years ago in an Israeli music forum before I even started my own project. It’s funny how a decade later, we reconnected and started making some cool tunes together. CURE97’s sound is too unique to ignore, and I’m thrilled to be one of the first established artists to collaborate with him. Even more importantly, I’m happy to call him a friend and witness his growth as both an artist and a human. It feels like family working with a talented homie from my own country.

  1. With your health improving significantly, were there any moments prior to that held you back mentally/physically while pursuing a music career? If so, what helped you personally overcome such obstacles?

Well, there were a lot of them, and they still exist today. I can’t ignore the fact that I’m different. My tics and Tourette’s might bother someone during a flight or in certain situations. I also come from a different culture and life situation than most DJs in the industry.

But the beautiful thing about this scene is that anyone from any background can find their place and be themselves. I’m thankful to be accepted, even if I’m sometimes misunderstood. Being part of this scene makes me so happy, and I learn something new every day. It truly feels like home to me.

Despite the challenges, the love for music and my passion to create something unique keep me going. I hope to inspire others who feel different or face obstacles in pursuing their passion. This community embraces diversity, understanding, and empathy, and I want it to keep growing and welcoming all artists.

I’m committed to contributing to this scene and making it a place where everyone feels they belong, where their art is celebrated, and their voices are heard. Music can bridge gaps, break barriers, and celebrate individuality.

I’m grateful for being welcomed into this scene, and I’m excited to keep exploring, learning, and growing in this ever-evolving musical world. Let’s embrace our differences, support one another, and create a harmonious space where everyone can feel at home.

  1. What’s next for the WHALES project that can keep folks excited for what’s to come till the end of 2023?

ALBUM! TOUR! MERCH! SO MUCH FUN!! I’m really excited for this all.

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the future of what thought-provoking soundscapes will sound like, you can do that now by tuning in to this young legend. Now it’s time to take a deeper dive into what makes this song what we like to call, a certified bop.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences, his music transcends traditional and tribal boundaries and pushes the limits of what can be achieved within the electronic music landscape”

Diving Deep w/ Censored The Audio

1.Who are some artists that you look up to within the drum and bass scene, and how have they inspired you to dive deep within the genre?

I‘ve been swimming in the drum and bass realm for 12 years now, and I’d started at an early age by picking up local gigs in Puerto Rico.

Coming across the grand majority of genres and styles, jungle was one that really caught my ears. Producers like DJ Fresh, Fracture, Neptune, all the way to Shlomo were definitely inspiring for me early in the run. There’s a giant list of people that I personally look up to, among them are: Emperor, Munchi, Skeptical, Dub Phizix, DJ Blass and many more.

2.You often release and feature on guest mixes, any future sessions that listeners can look forward to hearing?

I don‘t really have any guest mixes lined up at the moment, I‘ve taken this year to focus more on the production side of things.

If I do end up picking some up, I will for sure let you know through my socials!

3.What influenced the track title, “Cayuro”, and what significance does it have to you?

The whole “Diumba” EP thrives out of my Puerto Rican heritage; “Diumba” meaning Dance. With entire landscape recordings of coquís, Old San Juan wind chimes and the atmosphere of neighborhoods, you get a little feeling of Puerto Rico per track. The track titles are actually using a dead indigenous language from Puerto Rico.

Cayuro” is a word to describe a variety of medicinal soursop leaves. “Xaxabis” is a Hispaniolan parrot that Dave Columbo-Jenkins pointed out on Vision Radio episode 24 of season 3. “Tuyra” means Evil genius. That’s what they called the Spaniards. “Operito” means Ghost. Astral body of a disembodied. “Caocatex” is the name of the young son of Cacicavel, saved from the Xaragua massacre with Coati’s group, who fled to Marién. He then returned to Xaragua and not finding his relatives, he went to Xigüey where he died fighting against foreigners.

4.What’s next for this project? How do you hope to grow as an artist in the future?

-By the end of year, there will be more forthcoming CTA! Expect some originals, remixes, collaborations and some free downloads powered by the squads over at Incurzion Audio and LAFYTE Records.

Stratus Lays It Down w/ “Gob Slab EP” via SubCarbon Records [Q&A + Mix]

Stratus Lays It Down w/ “Gob Slab EP” via SubCarbon Records [Q&A + Mix]

Personally kind of upset with my friends that NO ONE told me about the existence of Stratus. You know who you are and yes we now have a problem for withholding such a talented individual from our ears. Fear not, however, as it is our duty to present you with the heat as soon as we discover it and boy have we been blessed let me tell ya. Brand new 4 track EP titled “Gob Slab” was just recently dropped via our good friends over at SubCarbon Records and this is one project you are not gonna want to miss out on. It has it all, grimy heavy dubstep bass lines with an infuse of outer-dimension alien frequencies that we have all accustomed to love. You’re gonna have this bad boy on repeat is all i’m saying. Now it’s time to take a deeper diver as to why we consider this ep what we like to call, a certified bop.

“This is my favorite batch of music I’ve ever produced. They’ve been proven weapons at shows all year and I’m so excited to finally get them in everyone’s hands!”

DIVING DEEP W/ STRATUS

1. The music scene is constantly changing and evolving as time goes by, as an artist how do you see yourself changing alongside it a few years from now?
I just try to let true inspiration and my love for tons of different styles and genres
naturally guide my output. I see myself creating a couple different avenues for
expression as time goes on. That really feels like the key to longevity, not just for
success, but for sanity as someone who creates things. Dance music is an important
pillar for me, but allowing myself to create things that wouldn’t work under the Stratus
umbrella is a big focus as I draw inspiration from so many different places. That
willingness to break away from my one project is gonna be key moving forward.
2. Everyone has their moments of doubt when facing adversity, what keeps you driven and inspired to move forward when things get rough career-wise?
Oh yeah, I go through it just about every day, as I imagine most artists do to some extent. It’s a cliche but playing shows and chatting with fans really reminds me how worth it all of this really is. That connection is impossible to replicate in any other venture and is such a beautiful, simple, necessary part of my life. Sometimes I get these messages from people about how my tunes help them get through hard times in their life, connect with family, or whatever and it’s incredibly humbling. I can’t fathom how that’s the case at all, but it really is an honor to touch even one person like that.
3. If aliens were to visit us right now and you had to show them one song to represent humanity, which would it be and why?
Man, that’s a damn near impossible question so I’m giving two. Strapping Young Lad – Shitstorm is the most chaotic song there is and makes me so happy. Feels like a banshee battle cry and represents the sheer weight that music can produce. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I’d say Max Richter – On the Nature of Daylight. It’s just such a gorgeous, restrained piece and the performance on the recording will make anyone cry. Weirdly enough it carries the same amount of weight but for a completely different reason, and I think that juxtaposition would represent humans pretty well.
