Ternion Sound x Khallil Showcase New Break Beat Single “Amplify”

Ternion Sound x Khallil Showcase New Break Beat Single “Amplify”

Transformative, innovative, and illustrious. Three great words to describe an even greater movement that has been paved by one of the scene’s most beloved trio. Ternion Sound is the real-life embodiment of what it’s like to stay true to the craft that made you. Their relentless focus on underground culture within the bass community is of high respect, which is what makes their upcoming album “Digital Artifice” that much more special. It showcases the work ethic of a trio who continuously pushes the bar forward, unveiling a new soundscape that’s different from their current signature deep roots style. The entirety of the album is set to drop on Friday, October 13th via NOISIA’s renowned label, VISION. Today we get another glimpse of the greatness that’s to come with the premiere of their new collab with Khallil titled “Amplify”. Now it’s time to take a deeper dive as to what makes this track what we like to call, a certified bop.

“This album has been years in the making… and it’s the most challenging creative work we’ve ever put together.”-Ternion Sound

DIVING DEEP W/ TERNION SOUND

1. From the depths of the underground to now being one of the most highly sought-after artist groups, what has changed overall between that timeframe?
The nature of the shows we’re playing is much different. Ternion started almost as a rejection from the spaces we all occupied before, mainstage EDM centered venues with bad soundsystems and scenes that weren’t as mature as we’d liked. We were all playing Riddim and heavier brostep type music and it was getting tiring being in that culture. The first couple years of Ternion we were playing a lot smaller shows in atypical venues, but usually with great sound, lots of custom hand built systems or small high end brand systems. Lately though our sound has taken off in popularity and a lot of the same old issues are coming up, some of the spaces we sought to get away from are interested in us as we “get bigger”, and the crowds are less in sync and on the same wavelength. Fighting against those pressures while still growing is a difficult task, we need growth to sustain a living, but growth under the current industry model means doing a lot of stuff we aren’t aligned with. Our hope is to take our resources from growing and put them into throwing our own parties or working with promoters we trust to do things in a way that’s aligned with our vision. To use a term borrowed from political theory, we’re trying to build an alternate power structure.
2. Being on the road as an artist comes with its challenges, I can only imagine multiplying that by three now. What are some of the ups and downs you guys have learned to overcome by being a trio in the electronic scene?
The biggest challenge with being a trio is we split everything 3 ways. It’s a great strength because we can delegate tasks, share workload, etc. But we are still only one act, filling one timeslot in the night, getting the draw of a single act, and getting paid accordingly, which means each of us as an individual gets 1/3rd of the pay a typical act at our size w/ typical pay gets. It doesn’t end up being 1/3rd the work either, the 3 of us all work full time doing this, so the delegated work just means we can do more work at the end of the day. This all basically means that we have to be very frugal and do a lot of things DIY even though the perception is that we’re very successful. Touring costs also eat a lot into this, sending all 3 members of the group to a show means triple the flight costs and additional room/bed costs. We typically send 2 for this reason as a middle ground, but even just with 2 we are doing 80+ shows a year (necessary to pay the bills), and for the two of us mostly on the road (me and Aric), there isn’t much time left at home for studio work, recovery (sleep debt management), and personal life. It’s a tough thing to juggle.
3. What are three things that bring joy to your life when looking to escape from the music world at times and why.
My escape from the music world has mostly been getting outside into nature without my phone on and just sitting in pure silence. Loud music, social media, socializing in person, traveling, flying, constantly talking to strangers, getting bad sleep, racking my brain for ideas in the studio, endless meetings and planning, etc are all exhausting forces, and for me what’s needed is silent time with no stimulation to recover from all of it. I also spend a good amount of time at the climbing gym and doing yoga and saunaing. Occasionally I get together with friends to play games as well, pretty simple stuff for me really.
MALUKA Makes His Artist Debut w/ New Song “Snuff Box”

MALUKA Makes His Artist Debut w/ New Song “Snuff Box”

Today is a good day for all my fellow friends and family who eat, sleep, and live listening to bass music on the daily. We have a new player in the game, Maluka, a bass music producer and DJ from Westchester, New York. “Snuff Box” makes its introductory debut release as the first project from Maluka. An individual who has now set his mind and focus on becoming one of the best, today we get a taste of what’s to come, and boy is it big. This track ushers in users towards an otherworldly auditory journey through space and time for a total of almost seven minutes. The more you listen to it, the more you start to appreciate the effort it took to formulate such a unique composition of electronic music. Now its time to take a deeper dive as to what makes this song what we like to call, a certified bop.

“I’m Maluka. I make Weird, Psychedelic-ish, Norwegian Metal Inspired, Left Field Festival Bass, EDM Music for Goth Wooks. That’s a genre now. You gotta say the whole thing. It’s kinda like IDM but less pretentious with more headbanger friendly moments.”

DIVING DEEP W/ MALUKA

1 . After taking such a long hiatus , what does it mean to you to finally be back and release new music out there?
It means a lot. It feels good to be motivated and goal oriented again. There was definitely a point where I questioned if I even wanted to start building a new brand, but I’m glad I did. I’ve learned a lot this passed year, and I feel like I have a lot more to offer than I ever have before.
2. Start fresh with a new alias is always a lot of fun but hardwork, what can we expect from this new project?
I’m working on tons of content to keep people engaged. Obviously a bunch of music. Unfortunately music isn’t enough to build a strong brand. I currently have weekly blog posts scheduled every Wednesday on my website. MalukaSounds.com for a shameless plug. This next month is all about VST plugins. I analyze and review them; with the focus centered around teaching people all about how the plugins work. For those that subscribe to my mailing list, I’m going to have free sample pack giveaways. And I’m also learning how to edit video, so I can start doing some proper tutorials on YouTube.
3. If you could give your younger self some advice you wish you had known before getting into music, what would that be and why?
My advice to younger me would be to take it slow and focus on yourself. Just because you see kids with no experience blow up doesn’t mean that you need to blow up with little to no experience. DJing is easy. Making unique art that you can connect with, even after listening for hundreds of hours, is extremely hard. And yeah you may be more experienced than some of your friends, but you ain’t shit out in the bigger ocean, so put that ego away and focus on the work.
RAAKET Comes Swinging w/ “Bogle” Off Upcoming SOUND REVIVAL EP

RAAKET Comes Swinging w/ “Bogle” Off Upcoming SOUND REVIVAL EP

Florida is being put on the map once again, and it’s all thanks to an individual who goes by the stage name of RAAKET. If you’ve been riding that Tape-B, Mersiv or Meduso train lately, you’re going to have to make room for one more on that list. Raaket has been on the fast rise lately within the dubstep scene and for good reason too. He is him and it’s that simple. From back-to-back heat releases to multiple festival appearances, it’s no secret that people can’t get enough of the young prodigy. Today is no different as we present you with a sneak peak off his latest project, a single from his forthcoming 4-track EP titled “Sound Revival”. Now it’s time to take a deeper dive as to what makes “Bogle” what we like to call, a certified bop.

“Bogle is one of those feel good tunes that hits the sweet spot for the reggae dub fans. The  entire Sound Revival EP is a blend of high energy bangers that show off Raaket’s old school  sound design with a fresh new style on experimental bass music.”

DIVING DEEP W/ RAAKET

Who are some artists that you lookup to within the dubstep scene,  andhow have they inspired you to divedeep within the genre?

I really look  up to some bigger artists like Jantsen, Mersiv, Smoakland, and Conrank. I  think all of their sounds and styles are that high energy bass music that  really encompass what I’m going for in my project. Their songs always  inspire me to keep pushing the boundaries of my sound design  capabilities and to create more unique songs. I’m also inspired by artist on  the come up like Meduso, Feelmonger, and Cool Customer as well. These  guys are all creating some very awesome projects that inspire me to add  new techniques to my style too.

You often release and feature on guest mixes, any future sessions that listeners can look forward to hearing?

You can count on the next Volume of “What’s With All That Raaket”  coming early next year, but at the moment there’s no other guest mixes coming  soon. This most recent one with Heard It Here First will have to hold it down for  the next few months!

What influenced the track title, “Bogle”, and what significance does it have to you?

I wanted to make a reggae inspired dubstep song for the new EP.  Once this reggae project started to come together, I discovered this “Bogle”  acapella that was really fun and groovy, and it seemed to be the perfect match  for the song. I have to admit, I had no idea what that word even meant haha.  After a little research, I learned that Bogle is a popular dance that came about  during the 80s in reggae dancehall from an artist named Gerald Levy, aka Mr.  Bogle. It’s a fun dance of rocking your arms up and down while swinging you  hips and bending your knees. Rihanna displayed this dance is her music video  of “Rude Boy.” The vocal really completes the songs and gives it a great energy  that makes the song special, which inclined me to release it as a single off the  EP. It was really fun making this project and I discovered some new sounds  while making it that expanded Raaket sound and style.

What’s next for this project? How do you hope to grow as an artist in the future?

I feel like I’ve expanded my discography enough on my personal  account, so now I’m looking to secure more label releases, collabing with other  artists that are on the come up like me, and remixing songs from big artist I  admire in the dubstep realm. I have an exciting remix for a HUGE artist that will  be announced in the near future and will be a massive milestone for me, but for  now I can’t give more details beyond that. I really hope to keep the momentum I  have growing with more festival bookings and headliner shows across the country, and I’ve got my fingers crossed to be included on more tours for big  artists in the future. This past year has been an incredible journey and I feel like  all my hard work is beginning to be recognized and respected by my peers in  the industry. But I’m still just getting started and have a long road ahead of me.  I’m grateful for all the support I have from Lows Only, Wubaholics, and my friend  group here in South Florida. I’m grateful for you guys at Headband Society as  well! Much love gang!

Evalution Showcases New Single “Scratch” via WUBAHOLICS

Evalution Showcases New Single “Scratch” via WUBAHOLICS

Tampa native Evan Cazes, better known as Evalution, has been making waves in the electronic scene for a few years now. Starting out as a young musician, he quickly began developing his musical taste that has shaped his production into what it is today. From his elevated sound design, to incorporating the guitar, bass and drums into his music, Evaluation has created an incredible sound that sets him apart from the rest. Today, August 29, his hot new track “Scratch” from his upcoming EP On Demand, premiered with Headbang Society on Soundcloud. From the catchy lyrics to the hypnotizing bass, Scratch is without a doubt going to be a favorite from this new EP. We sat down with Evalution to dive deep into his new tune, tour life and his inspiration from the EP. Read the full Q+A below:

“Scratch features some of my most obscure sound design yet, a history lesson on CDs, and some samples from the iconic movie ‘The Ringer’. The first drop hits more on the wobbly side, second drop more on the thumpy head boppin side – everybody wins.” -Evalution

DIVING DEEP W/ EVALUTION

1) How has your previous musical knowledge and ability to play instruments such as the guitar and the piano, influenced your sound as an electronic music producer?

I grew up playing multiple instruments and taking lessons, which taught me a lot about music theory and has definitely shaped my production. Even though I make bass music, my tracks are very melodic, and I think this stems from my musical background. I love sound design but at the end of the day, I believe a good melody is what hooks the listener and most resonates with me personally.

2) From playing EDC Orlando, to joining Mersiv on his new Out of Bounds tour, to playing direct support for Subtronics, you are currently crushing show life. How has your life as a musician changed since playing shows of this caliber?

Being able to open for some of my biggest influences/playing at bucket list venues has been super inspiring – not just when I’m on stage, but when I’m in the studio. Some of my best tracks come after playing a big show, and I’m just insanely grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. Stoked for these upcoming shows with Mersiv!

3) Your new EP “On Demand”, comes out August 30, featuring an exciting tune called “Scratch”. You stated that you included some samples from the movie, “The Ringer”, where did the inspiration for this come from?

I’ve always loved Johnny Knoxville and the whole Jackass crewgrowing up and this movie was one of my favorites as a kid. I wanted to keep the EP’s core theme focused around movies/television, which is why I incorporated a bunch of my favorite samples featured throughout all of the tunes!

4) How do you believe your sound design has progressed over the years to get to where you are now?

I think sound design involves a lot of trial-and-error until you figure out how to properly manipulate your synth and figure out what direction you want to take with your sound. Now that I’m five years into producing, it feels nice being able to open Ableton and know how to put my ideas down on paper so to speak. This EP is a little more outside the box in terms of sound design, but it still has a heavy focus on songwriting and I’m excited for everyone to hear it!

5) What is the message you hope listeners take away from your new EP?

I just hope these tracks resonate with people and that they enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them. I designed these tunes so that each track flows right into the next, so listen from start to finish! On top of that, “On Demand” is a metaphor about how quickly disposable content/art is right now. Everyone has all of this new music “On Demand” at the tip of their fingertips, and I think it almost diminishes the impact of releases. To clarify, It’s not trying to be negative by any means. Times are always changing and evolving, and I’m always willing to accept and adapt. I’m just curious to see the lasting impact this has on music/culture in the future. Thank you guys for chatting with me and go stream ON DEMAND – OUT 8/30 ON WUBAHOLICS

Dukez X Myto Bring the Bass w/ New Track “Fully Loaded”

Dukez X Myto Bring the Bass w/ New Track “Fully Loaded”

The underground is alive and stronger than ever thanks to the continuous rise and development of artists who are here to raise the bar for those to come after them. Two individuals that come to mind are Dukez & Myto. They help showcase this exact concept we speak of with the release of their newest collaborative single “Fully Loaded”. If you’re looking to get on a wild auditory rollercoaster full of switch-ups and turns at every angle, then this track was made exclusively for you. We can’t remember the last time we had this much fun replaying a track over and over due to its raw ability to always present new elements at each drop. Now its time to take a deeper dive as to what makes this track what we like to call, a certified bop.

“I’m here to hopefully bring joy and pleasure to all of your ear holes and send you through a mystical, majestic, journey into your own mind with some of my weird sounds. What you’ll find here is music with no rules, no genre restrictions, no holding back. My objective with this project is to fill your mind with freeform music therapy in hopes that you have a better day after listening.”

DIVING DEEP W/ MYTO

1. Fully Loaded is the first collaboration between your projects. Was it easy to find a workflow together when writing this track? What elements and inspirations did you bring to this track when you wrote it?
This collab went super smooth. We essentially had three iterations sent back and forth, each one being pretty non committal. It was nice to be working on a project where I could focus on pushing the envelope rather than trying to fit into the song.
2. Did you encounter any challenges or roadblocks when collaborating on Fully Loaded? If so, how did you overcome them to make this track its final form?
We ended up changing the arrangement a few times, but nothing that impeded our workflow. I think we’re both versatile enough to work with whatever is thrown at us.
3. Where do you hope to see your project 5 years from now? What are you doing presently to make this dream a reality?
In 5 years, I hope to be teaching, preforming, and continuing to produce music that can’t be defined. I just love ableton.
4. What is up next for each of your projects? What do you have planned in the near future that fans have to look forward to?
My newest EP, DIEGETIC releases on August 7th! It’s a foray higher tempos, dnb, and atmospheric composition. I’ll be doing a lot of sample heavy and analog production following this EP- I plan on taking the project to a more timeless sound.

Diving Deep w/ Censored The Audio

1.Who are some artists that you look up to within the drum and bass scene, and how have they inspired you to dive deep within the genre?

I‘ve been swimming in the drum and bass realm for 12 years now, and I’d started at an early age by picking up local gigs in Puerto Rico.

Coming across the grand majority of genres and styles, jungle was one that really caught my ears. Producers like DJ Fresh, Fracture, Neptune, all the way to Shlomo were definitely inspiring for me early in the run. There’s a giant list of people that I personally look up to, among them are: Emperor, Munchi, Skeptical, Dub Phizix, DJ Blass and many more.

2.You often release and feature on guest mixes, any future sessions that listeners can look forward to hearing?

I don‘t really have any guest mixes lined up at the moment, I‘ve taken this year to focus more on the production side of things.

If I do end up picking some up, I will for sure let you know through my socials!

3.What influenced the track title, “Cayuro”, and what significance does it have to you?

The whole “Diumba” EP thrives out of my Puerto Rican heritage; “Diumba” meaning Dance. With entire landscape recordings of coquís, Old San Juan wind chimes and the atmosphere of neighborhoods, you get a little feeling of Puerto Rico per track. The track titles are actually using a dead indigenous language from Puerto Rico.

Cayuro” is a word to describe a variety of medicinal soursop leaves. “Xaxabis” is a Hispaniolan parrot that Dave Columbo-Jenkins pointed out on Vision Radio episode 24 of season 3. “Tuyra” means Evil genius. That’s what they called the Spaniards. “Operito” means Ghost. Astral body of a disembodied. “Caocatex” is the name of the young son of Cacicavel, saved from the Xaragua massacre with Coati’s group, who fled to Marién. He then returned to Xaragua and not finding his relatives, he went to Xigüey where he died fighting against foreigners.

4.What’s next for this project? How do you hope to grow as an artist in the future?

-By the end of year, there will be more forthcoming CTA! Expect some originals, remixes, collaborations and some free downloads powered by the squads over at Incurzion Audio and LAFYTE Records.
