Well Mikayli’s new EP “Lucid Dreaming” is here to do just that: transport you into a space where the lines between reality and dream state are too blurred to tell the two apart. “During a lucid dream, the dreamer gains some amount of control over the dream, its characters, narrative, or environment. This project is intended to bring forth the inherent questions we ask when the world presents us with opportunity. The tracks challenge the listener to imagine what this scoundscape looks and feels like in the confines of their own mind. A three step process, intended to disconnect, find a bit of clarity, and dream lucidly.”

What’s one artist you’re grateful for that has inspired you to be where you are today and why?

–

An artist that has truly inspired would have to be Charles The First. I stumbled upon Charles’s music when he played at Webster Hall in February of 2020. I went into this show not knowing what to expect, I had not heard of CTF before and this was for sure a new experience. Hearing Charles’s melodies and chords being incorporated into bass music was like nothing I had heard before. This was beyond inspirational. I was at a point in my music career where I did not want to make heavy bass music anymore, it wasn’t resonating with me the same way it had used to. I was getting ready to quit until I heard Charles The First’s set. I immediately had all these ideas flowing through me, the way his music was composed was so unique and the feelings his songs sent through my body were so new. I remember going home and trying out new tempos and listening to his music over and over. I then discovered Of The Tree’s, Tiedye Ky, and a whole other side of Bass music that filled my void. Thank you Charles.

If there was one thing you could change in the bass scene, what would it be and why?

–

One thing I would change in the bass scene is the stigma for competition. We should not be working against each other, this only hinders growth, especially within micro communities. We are all artists bringing our ideas of music to fruition. We are all one in the same, regardless of what genre we make, we are all trying to create. There is no competition in my eyes, I am happy to see all of my friends succeeding. We are all growing together and it is a beautiful part of this music culture. Be happy for your friends, lift them up when you can, at the end of the day we are all just computer nerds geeking out on our DAW’s.

Another thing I would change is $5 water bottles at venues, that sh*t is straight robbery and we must petition for change. All love.

Wakaan’s very own Redrum has blessed our ears with a new track that takes a bit of a darker tune than some of the other tracks produced by this heavy hitter. 1. What would you tell your younger self today knowing where you’re at now and what it took to get there?

I have so much I want to say to my younger self but I think the biggest thing would just be to keep going, it gets better. I spent a lot of my life before I found music not wanting to be here and I wish I could go back and tell that girl how much better things get.

2. If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

–

I have so many artists I want to collaborate with! I would love to work with Apashe or Clozee though, I’m curious what our styles would sound like combined!

What would you tell your younger self today knowing where you’re at now and what it took to get there?

 I would tell my younger self ANY & EVERY bit of production knowledge I have now. I had some of the craziest musical ideas growing up, but I just didn’t know how to 100% execute them. I would also tell myself to not worry about what others are doing as much & focus on my own path. Everyone has a different path in life & you can’t compare your own personal journey to someone else’s. Life works in mysterious ways, but if you trust the process, you’ll end up RIGHT where you want to be!

If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

–

 Oof that is a tough one. So many artists I want to work with. To name a few I’d say Kursa, Tipper(YEAH RIGHT), Jantsen, Noisia, Death Grips, & Tame Impala. Honestly that list could go on FOREVER & EVER. All of the best collaborations generally come from the connections I’ve made in the industry though. Nothing quite beats vibing with people in & out of the studio and making art together. I’m always open to collaborate with styles outside of my comfort zone to help push the envelope of my sound!

2. What would you tell your younger self today knowing where you’re at now and what it took to get there?

I would tell myself to not compare myself to others, cause that only brings disappointment. Believe in yourself and know you are on the right path and good things will come to you.

Jalaya is back at it again ,and this time he has decided to bring along a few friends to assist with disruption of frequencies that is about to occur. We are happy to introduce the newest bass bumpin’ remix compilation for his song “Heart Tear”. Today, we get the pleasure of premiering our favorite off the EP, remixed by none other than SIGKILL. This tune is an absolute banger from start to finish, transforming Jalaya’s original track into its own unique auditory experience filled with twists and turns. What would you tell your younger self today knowing where you’re at now and what it took to get there?

Musically I don’t really have many regrets. I started out making the music that I wanted to listen to, and that hasn’t changed. Other people liking it is just a bonus. I will say that I wish I internalized music theory more from when I was learning piano, but I try to make up for it by just soaking myself in music every day. Also I would probably tell myself to wear earplugs before going to that Excision show that had like 250kW PK sound because I’m pretty sure that concert single-handedly dropped my hearing range… oh well

If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

–

G Jones, EPROM, Moody Good, Nitepunk, Thelem, Protial, Noisia, Chee, Bleep Bloop, and pretty much anyone who has released on SATURATE Records if we’re talking bass music. Aphex Twin, LITLBIRD, and little snake never fail to impress me with their sound design. I listen to a lot of different types of music in my free time (honestly probably even more than I do bass music), and I think that definitely affects the music I put out: there are a bunch of genres I think I can learn a lot from musically. The most influential genres to my music right now are probably metal, grime, rave, gospel, and JRPG soundtracks.

Ampathic: I would tell myself to take a step back, watch…listen…..and learn. You will never hurt yourself by listening and gathering information but you can shoot yourself in the foot if you talk too soon or say the wrong thing. You can do anything you set your mind to, but listen and learn

Shatter: I truly don’t think I’d give my younger self too much advice. I’ve learned so much through failure and that’s where all my drive has come from to be where I am now. Anything you want to get better at is a grind so I’d tell myself to never give up because you don’t know when and where you’ll find the success if you give up. You only find success trusting the process and putting your nose to the grindstone.

 If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

–

Ampathic:  I would love to collab with Minnesota. I absolutely love his entire discography, so many different layers and styles within his entire project. I personally am obsessed with his song breathe i think that is a masterpiece. I believe our similar arpeggiator vibes would mesh very well together and could create something magical and heavy. Or friction because well that would just be a stinker.

Shatter: I’d really like to collaborate with King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. They have continued to be one of my main inspirations because of not sticking to a sound or genre. I highly suggest anyone to listen to them because of such a broad discography. It’s awesome to show someone a band/producer that has something they will like no matter their taste.
