Xsetra Gets Down & Weird w/ “How Bout” via Pulp Glitchin’ Records

One of Australia’s finest bass producers that has taken the scene by storm in both his country and now our, has come to showcase his newest heater of a track “How Bout”. Today Xserta, who is known across the “down under” for his drum and bass, has come out swinging with a weird and exciting new bass track that combines the grimey, dark soundscapes we love with some absolutely wonky rhythm. This track definitely will get you head bobbing as you travel through the unique halftime stomper as well as the rest of the “Parental Guidance Vol. 1” playlist. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling this tune a certified bop.

Forthcoming on PG Records first compilation Album – How Bout is a grimey halftime tune from Australian producer Xsetra that seemlessly progresses from wonky head nodding jam, to tipper-esque squelchy IDM. Whilst How Bout is driven by squelchy rythmic bass lines and formant filter “yois” it’s the air tight percussion and subtle dark sound scapes that really capture your ear and draw you in for more. The excellent sound design in How Bout is a prominent feature of all of Xsetra’s catalouge and if you go digging for more – you will not be dissapointed.”

Who/what are the biggest inspiration for the music you create today?

Sleepnet, Zound, Phace or anything on Flexout is my biggest inspiration. Definitely don’t just have one.

What has been one of the most memorable career achievements so far as an artist and how did that impact you moving forward?

I guess it would be playing shows at festivals with large crowd attendance. Nothing lifts you up more than that, seeing all those people moving to music you created is wonderful. It makes you want to make more music and progress further.

Notlö x Bromosapien Come Out Swinging w/ “YOUALREADYKNO” via “Outskirts” EP

Notlö x Bromosapien Come Out Swinging w/ “YOUALREADYKNO” via “Outskirts” EP

Right now, there are so many talented women who work throughout various roles in the music scene. The number of female DJs who are continuing to make waves with their stellar production and jaw-dropping music continues to grow each and every day, inspiring many throughout the community. One of these extremely talented ladies is none other than heavy hitting bass producer, Notlö, who’s “Outskirts” EP we get the pleasure of presenting to you today!  This entire EP stomps from beginning to end, bringing both the heavy downtempo and uptempo soundscapes we have come to know and love from this artist. Our personal favorite off the new release, “YOUALREADYKNO” is an insane collaboration from Notlö and bass wizard, BroMosapien that is not one to be missed. With an uptempo beat and a downright filthy bassline, this track has all the proper components to have you playing this one over and over again. Let’s take a closer look at why “YOUALREADYKNO” and the rest of this insane EP is what we like to call, a certified bop.

“As a queer woman creating heavy music, I’ve always felt I’ve been on the “outskirts” of the electronic music world. I feel so free while I’m creating, so I wanted to show my range with this EP. It’s a big tease of what’s to come with me and the NotLö project.”

  1. “What does being a female artist in the EDM community mean to you?”

It means a lot to be able to represent a group of individuals that is rather small in comparison to men. However, I think the norm of not seeing as many ladies in the scene is changing. It’s crucial for us ladies heavily involved in the scene to inspire and help other ladies as much as possible to keep up this growth.

  1. “Is there a specific message you would like to portray through your music, and if so, what would it be?”

My message is to show that anybody can express themselves. No matter the way you do it, just do not fear expressing yourselves. I want people to have fun and find joy with my music and performances. With that, I hope it sparks their creativity and the ability for them to express themselves!

Gallium Turns All Heads w/ New Heater “Need You”

With all the music that is released day in and day out, there is so much to constantly consume at one time. As an artist being able to create tracks that not only stand out, but get people up and moving can be a daunting task, but not for Denver producer Gallium. The heater of a new track that we get the pleasure of premiering today, “Need You”, is the perfect combination of strong uptempo sound structure and an absolute monster of a bassline. Combining a heavy drum beat and an intricate bass sound, this track is audio distortion at its finest that you can’t find anywhere else. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we think “Need You” is what we call, a certified bop.

“I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting in the Halftime DnB BPM ranges and I think “”Need You”” is a good representation of that! From the sound design to making the drum groove I really just had a blast creating this tune.”

  1. What kind of impact do you wish to have on the scene 1-2 years from now with your project?

So far in my career I’ve mainly focused my project on creating a cohesive sound that spans the majority of BPMs and genres encompassed by “Bass Music”. Because of this, I have been able to curate very diverse live sets that, so far, have been very positively received. I feel like fans in the scene have gone to shows for so long expecting to catch a set with one, maybe two, styles of bass music from one artist. So I would say that the impact I would like to leave over the next year or two is to help make cohesive/multi-subgenre sets more common in the scene.

  1. If there is one thing you could change in the electronic scene, what would it be and why?

If there was one thing in the electronic scene that I could change it would probably be genre snobbery. Like what you like of course, but there’s no need to look down on others for having different tastes than you!

THRASHA Brings The “Endgame” w/ New Club Stomper

Step aside everyone.  Thrasha,  Boston–native , has finally surfaced from the depths of her studio to make her mark on the ever growing dubstep scene. Today she makes her debut with a new single titled “ENDGAME” , a thriller of a heavy club stomper bound to leave every show attendee with a jolt of energy and defiance. If you’ve been in search of that new new that leaves you with no option but to play it endlessly on repeat, then we have some good news for you. THRASHA delivered on all levels of the auditory spectrum with this bass rush experience of a tune. Let’s take dive as to what makes this song what we like to call, a certified bop.

1. What is the origin behind your project alias?

I wanted to come up with a brand or concept that represented the way that bass music made me feel whenever I was listening to or experiencing it live. I could never put my finger on what it was about those frequencies that made it nearly impossible for my body not to react to it. Bass music has its own unique energy that is truly unmatched and it has the ability to physically control me more than any other genre of music.

THRASHA represents that uncontrollable urge to throw limbs in every direction and let the music truly take over.

It’s the feeling you get when the bass rips through your entire body and you can’t help but react in the most extreme ways possible. Taking that energy that builds inside you and releasing it into the world is what this project is all about. I want to share this feeling with everyone who comes to my shows and I want to know they are experiencing that special feeling.

2. What has been one artist experience that has been the most memorable and why?
Although it’s difficult to choose just one, there are two artist experiences that stick out in my mind the most; when I met NGHTMRE for the first time in 2018 and when I opened up for Mersiv at the Aggie Theater in May of 2021.
NGHTMRE‘s project and musical journey played a key role in me realizing that I wanted to do this as a career for the rest of my life.
In 2018, I got to meet him for the first time, one-on-one, backstage at the Portal Tour at the Intersection; it was a surreal experience because I was meeting the person who pushed me to become the artist and DJ that I am today. He gave me an immense amount of career advice which helped solidify some choices at the time that I was unsure of pursuing, such as music production school.
The other moment was when I was given the opportunity to open for Mersiv at the Aggie Theater last May. At the time I had only played one show under my previous alias, so to be able to play my first show as THRASHA with Mersiv was something I could’ve only ever dreamed of. Being able to debut this project with one of my music heroes was such a blessing but what really made this memorable was that this crowd didn’t know who I was and yet they all showed up early and raged so hard the entire set. It was one of those moments in my journey where I knew if I kept putting work into my project, the possibilities were endless.

ASHEZ Gets Heavy via Xotix’s New “Fresh ” Remix EP

Bass heavy “boy band”, Xotix, is back at it again this week, this time bringing us a ridiculously stacked collaboration list on their new “Fresh Remix” EP. Featuring artists such as smol, Jalaya, and GLASSPVCK, this entire EP is back to back madness from some of the forerunners in the freeform scene. Today, we have the honor of bringing you ASHEZ’s specially curated remix of “Fresh” which is an absolute must listen. This downtempo slapper of a track provides us with some extremely nasty wubby drops, taking this already mind blowing tune and reworking it into a heavy hitter of a deep bass creation. Get your bass faces ready folks and let’s check out why we’re calling this remix a certified bop.

“When the Xotix boys hit me up to remix one of their tracks for their EP I couldn’t have said yes fast enough. These boys have been killing it and I knew a remix EP would get a lot of hype. The stems were super fun to work with,  I really enjoyed writing this one!”

  1. Where do you see yourself in 5 years and what’s your game plan to get there currently?

“I see myself most likely living in the states, potentially Denver or Portland. My wife is from Portland, Oregon, so we travel back and forth quite a bit already but once I start getting more interest and bookings in the states I feel it will make the most sense to move there (we live in New Zealand currently). My ultimate goal is to be able to travel and live off playing my music (I guess that’s every musician’s goal). The way I hope to achieve that is by just staying consistent and continuing doing what I’m doing, consistent releases and networking until I get there.”

  1. If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

“CloZee. When I first travelled the states back in 2017, I saw her perform at Oregon Eclipse Festival and it seriously changed my life. I had never heard music like that before and I fell in love with it. That set is what inspired me to start making the music I make. I was already producing but not bass music. Fast forward to the beginning of 2021, I got sent a video of CloZee playing out one of my tunes (I didn’t even know she knew who I was). Then later that year I finally got to meet her and hang out with her at her show in Portland. She’s been supporting me so much over the past year and has shown my music to a bunch of other artists such as LSDream, Opiuo and Maddy O’neil and I can’t thank her enough for that. Hopefully one day we’ll work on music together.”

Both heavy hitting freeform tune makers will keep you on your toes, both individually as well as with their most recent collaboration that we are bringing to you live today, “From The Top”. Come take a closer look with us as to why we are calling this collab, a certified bop!

  1. What has been your favorite memory this far having been part of the EDM scene prior to successfully launching off as a reputable bass artist?

My favorite memory in edm so far i would say has to be attending my first Electric Forest back in 2017. That was such a memorable weekend for me, to travel with my friends and experience one of the top festivals in the country for the first time.

  1. What was the inspiration that helped push you into wanting to pursue a career in music?

I grew up with somewhat of a musical background. I played the drums for 5 years throughout grade school and I’m self-taught on the piano. I discovered dance music in my later years of high school & decided to pursue a degree in entertainment management during college focusing specifically on the music industry. A passion for music has always been a part of who I am, so I guess for me it was bound to happen sooner or later.
