1. How did you decide to get into music? Was there a certain event in your childhood/life that made you stop and realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

“Music has been a significant part of my life since I was a child, from family and friends to education. Exposure and performance in Jazz & Symphonic orchestras during my childhood, listening to music influenced by New Orleans’ ‘Disco Donnie-era’ rave culture, and being exposed to Rap, Hip-hop, and Bounce music during all of my adolescent years sparked my unique interest in production and the music industry. However, it wasn’t until I started college during the ‘Golden Age of EDM’ that I found my passion for Producing and Djing. It was there I knew the path I wanted to take.”

2. It can be very hard sometimes to separate music from day-to-day life when it’s a huge part of your life. How do you personally separate your artist life from your everyday life, and have you faced any challenges doing so?

“Agreed. I’m certified in Information Technology and have a career during the day in that sector, so using my time wisely to achieve my music business goals is crucial. It can be a challenging, balancing act, but I prioritize self-care through meditation, fitness, and constant personal growth. I also believe in giving back and helping others, especially in music. I also used to teach fellow classmates back in college at Loyola how to use digital audio workstations to record and produce, which was a rewarding experience; being able to teach and grow with my peers.”

3. As an artist, you can experience a number of roadblocks along the way to achieving your goals. What motivates you to continue to be creative and make music even when times get tough?

“My motivation to continue making music, even during tough times, comes from my belief in hard work and perseverance. I never give up and always strive to improve, and there is where I find inspiration. I believe that the true test of one’s character comes when faced with the desire to give up, but instead, one chooses to keep working towards their goals with determination and persistence. This is where I have experienced my most significant breakthroughs as an entrepreneur.”

4. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since you started making music? Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring producers hoping to follow in your footsteps?

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of being authentic and making a positive impact on your culture. Setting an example by the embodiment of your ideals made manifest is paramount to any creative, I feel. Networking with like-minded individuals and treating others with respect and kindness are also crucial to your growth as an artist too. To aspiring creatives, I would say believe in yourself, never give up on your dreams, and always stay true to who you are and your INNER-SOUND!”

It is always so amazing to see artists set outside their comfort zones in production and create a track that captures their unique sound design and takes it to a whole new level. This is exactly what bass wizard Dank Frank has done with the release of his latest heavy hitter, “Hoverboard (I’ll Be Fine)”, that we have the absolute pleasure of premiering for you to do. There is no doubt that the Dank Frank project has created a banger that everyone is going to have on repeat for the foreseeable future due to its infectious tune and nasty drops! Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling “Hoverboard (I’ll Be Fine)”, a certified bop.

“Hoverboard (I’ll be fine) is a song I wrote while I was in a pretty low spot. It’s a track I made to remind myself that when times are rough, when everything is changing too fast, there is always a way forward and something to take you there. You might just have to get creative to find it. I designed the arrangement to take you on somewhat of a ride with its own lows and highs to reflect that journey.”

1. How did you decide to get into music? Was there a certain event in your childhood/life that made you stop and realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

It’s hard to pin down a specific moment, but if I had to pick one, it was probably after I showed a few friends in middle school a song I made in GarageBand and got the biggest, most excited reaction I’ve ever seen. After that, it was over. Now I can’t stop, nor do I want to

2. It can be very hard sometimes to separate music from day-to-day life when it’s a huge part of your life. How do you personally separate your artist life from your everyday life, and have you faced any challenges doing so?

I always try to keep myself busy with other projects, be that woodworking, fishing, skiing, hiking or watching a good anime. It helps keep me grounded when I’m not in beep boop mode.

3. What’s one cool fact about yourself/or your project that not many fans know about?

I’ve been skiing since the age of two, and I’ve actually won some big mountain freestyle competitions

4. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since you started making music? Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring producers hoping to follow in your footsteps?

Something I fend helps to consistently remind myself is that good sounds and arrangements aren’t always going to flow, and that’s fine. Its impossible to hit 100% all the time, so embrace the creative lulls. Do something you enjoy that has nothing to do with music for a while and be patient. But when that inspiration inevitably hits, capture every moment of it.

“Throughout my production journey I’ve been inspired by a whole range of genres such as Future bass, Dubstep, Hardstyle, Jungle, Hip Hop, Grime, and Drum and Bass. I spent a lot of time digging into these genres, looking for elements that stand out for me and repurposing them into my own music. My EP, Heartless, features four tracks that break away from genre restrictions and showcase the foundations of my artistic expression.”

Diving Deep w/ Kunas.

1. How did you decide to get into music? Was there a certain event in your childhood/life that made you stop and realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Growing up, my parents were always making sure we (me and my siblings) were surrounded by music. Either by sending us to piano lessons, playing in the local school band, singing in choirs, or just having music freely roam the house. When I got older I slowly fell into the heavier side of music, especially metal, drawn towards the energy, mosh pits, and communities. During college I was having a hard time finding people to form a band with. This is when I discovered the potential of electronic music. People would mosh, headbang, and dance to electronic music, all while I could make it alone – in my bedroom.

I remember there was a guy at college, couple years older than me, who performed a show during an assembly. The show consisted of original pop songs he had produced. He used his laptop on stage and was looping synths and his voice to create harmonies and arrangement. Despite the style of music not being what I usually was drawn towards, this moment changed my view on music forever. This is when I knew it was what I wanted to do. After that, I downloaded Ableton, started learning from YouTube and spent the next four years discovering as many genres and sounds as possible, digging deeper and further
every year.

2. You definitely have a very unique name for your project. Does the name have a specific meaning or derived from something in your life? Is there a story fans might not know about how you came to this name for your project?

Kunas comes from my surname, Trepekunas, a Lithuanian word that means body. It took me a long time to find a name for the project that I resonated with. I landed on Kunas because it’s personal. I felt by using my own name I was free to be original, stay in my own lane and do my own thing. Essentially, Kunas is the result of my reality.

3. It can be very hard sometimes to separate music from day to day life when it’s a huge part of your life. How do you personally separate your artist life from your everyday life, and have you faced any challenges doing so?

I could talk about work-life balance for hours. Personally I feel merging the two, shaping my personal life to enhance my artist life is the way to go. I moved to London four years ago to study music production and see if I could potentially pursue this career. Since arriving here, music has always been my number one priority. I started going to raves, meeting like minded people, linking up with producers, singers, rappers, music business people and so on. Eventually my circle of friends started to form, consisting of like minded people, which results in my personal life being very much linked to music.

Currently I am fortunate enough to live with another music producer, Leith Wiles, who inspires me every day. We make music together, share ideas, brainstorm, push each other outside our comfort zones and help eachother grow. I feel, as a creative, that I get along well with other creatives and I get inspired by so many other forms of art than just music. I have friends who play in bands, make films, do fine art, and write poetry, all forms of art that enrich my artistic identity more than they could ever imagine. I feel so grateful to be surrounded by these people while developing my own artistic vision.

4. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since you started making music? Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring producers hoping to follow in your footsteps?

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt since I started making music is to be inspired by everything! Take inspiration from your surroundings, including the streets outside your apartment and the ride home on the tube. The people you meet on a night out and the leftover food you eat in the morning. Go out of your way to experience new genres and keep an open mind to everything unfamiliar. Try out new techniques, push plugins beyond what they were meant for, and work with people who have a different sonic signature than your own. Staying inspired this way has enhanced the way I create music, resulting in art that I’m proud of and that showcases so much more than just a genre of music.

BRAINWAVEZ Doubles Down w/ New Track “Time Loop” via Cypher Vol. 4

In today’s times, there are multitudes on multitudes on new artists, new artist and the next “big thing”. To make it to the top, artists continuously release heater after heater in hopes to have their shot in the spotlight. This is exactly what up and coming bass artist, BRAINWAVEZ is doing with his latest release with our friends over at LoFreq. This track, featured on their Cypher Vol.4 compilation series, combines some absolutely chaotic, infectious energy with an intense melody to create a heavy hitting track you do not want to miss. With inspiration from the ticking of clocks, “Time Loop”, creates an alternate reality, catapulting listeners into a whole never before seen world through sound. There is no doubt that BRAINWAVEZ has a unique sound design unlike any we have ever experienced before. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling “Time Loop”, a certified bop.

“I wanted to make a song with a chaotic, pursuit-like melody for the intro and a heavy drop that would match that energy. The visual scene for me in this track is basically cyborg soldiers from the future in an epic battle lol.

At the time of writing this song I was heavily inspired by artists like PEEKABOO and ATLiens, a lot of the sound and arrangement choices are inspired by them.

The name “Time Loop” comes from the ticking clock sample I’m using throughout the intro and also the “in 1 minute” vocal loop that can be heard during the first part of the build up.”

1. How did you decide to get into music? Was there a certain event in your childhood/life that made you stop and realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

So back in highschool I used to record reaaaallyyyy crappy mixtapes with virtual DJ on my mom’s pc, some day one of my friends was listening to one of these mixtapes and he asked me if I also produced Hip Hop beats, which I said no to BUT I got curious about how beats are actually made, then I downloaded a cracked version of FL Studio 9 and I was instantly hooked from that day on.

2. What has been a personal career struggle that you have battled with the most and how has it helped mold your character for the better good presently?

For the longest time I struggled with building a narrative and a visual and overall brand for BRAINWAVEZ, I had some ideas but nothing definitive, recently and thanks to a mentor I was able to flesh out a really cool story/narrative and visual aspect for the project that I’m really excited to start presenting! Achieving this has helped me gain confidence over what BRAINWAVEZ is all about and how I want the audience to perceive it.

3. You live, breathe and eat bass music. Do you listen to anything else when you are away from everything? What would your top 5 non bass artists be? Top 5 bass artists?

Funnily enough, I don’t listen to much bass music! Unless I’m looking for inspiration or preparing a DJ set.

I normally listen to pretty chill music actually haha I like lofi hip hop and jazzy beats.

– At the moment my 5 non bass artists would be Billie Eillish, FKJ, Mac Miller, Vicente Garcia and 53 thieves.

– For bass music artists right now I like a lot of the music of LYNY, Chee, EAZYBAKED, Shades and my homie Oddly Godly!

4. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned since you started making music? Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring producers hoping to follow in your footsteps?

If I can condense it to one lesson only is that consistency is key! You gotta be patient and focus on getting 1% better EVERY DAY, it does take a lot of time to start liking your own music but if you put the reps in consistency you’ll see results! As I said to one of my students, music production is like mining, you gotta dig through a lot of mud, rocks and shit(ty songs) for quite some time until you get to the gold!
