Inside The Minds Of Dreamscape Festival [Q&A]

If you’re looking to submit your mind within a world where electronic music meets imagination , then we have found the perfect solution just for you. Dreamscape Festival is one of Maryland’s must see gem destinations within the Darlington region. It’s being hosted at Camp Ramblewood, one of the states most premiere event venues consisted of obstacle courses , a lake , swing sets , pool parties and plenty of shaded areas for camping. Can we take a second to just appreciate what a beautiful job was done curating such a beautiful lineup that encompasses every bassheads dream for festival acts. Leading the march is Rusko and G Jones for the main closing acts of each day,  accompanied by other strong hold houses such as Ternion Sound, Minnesota, Vampa, Illanthropy and others. If you’re looking to dive deep into some of the bass scenes fastest rising underground acts , then you might as well be in heaven. Let’s take a deeper dive into the minds of festival directors Nicole Tossas and John Normal, individuals who have thankfully given us this opportunity and are working day in and day out to ensure a successful Dreamscape 2022 for all attendees.

“There has been a lot of hype on social media this week and we’re noticing a lot of newcomers to our brand which is very exciting and we expect a lot of positive energy and excitement. The weather is going to be be absolutely amazing and perfect for our daily pool parties. We really expect that this will be a fantastic return for Dreamscape!”

DIVING DEEP W/ NICOLE TOSSAS AND JOHN NORMAL

What is the mission behind the curation of this years Dreamscape festival?

The original 3 years of Dreamscape Festival focused on making sure every genre had a fair amount of representation. That type of curation can be difficult these days for a midsized festival and a lot has changed in the last 5 years. We decided to carefully curate around what we felt was a defining theme for the rebirth of Dreamscape, with a focus amazing artists that do not regularly play in local markets.

Given this years main acts are Rusko and G Jones, what was the thought process for selecting these two individuals to headline such a festival?

Both artists have made such a massive imprint in bass music while simultaneously producing music on different parts of a wide bass music spectrum.
We understand yourself and your team may be very preoccupied ensuring the success of the event with day to day operations , but if you could relax and catch 3 sets which ones would they be and why?
It’s hard to say because we booked a lot of artists who we feel represent the vibe of what we are going for. Each stage has people who are producing absolutely brilliant tracks that we feel need to be heard.
What do you wish to accomplish by the end of the event and can we expect any other future plans along the line already in the works?
Dreamscape was originally one of the first events in the area to provide a fully immersive experience.. We love to put together a good lineup that tells a story from the time a stage starts the whole way to the end. However in addition to great music, we aim to bring interaction and connections that go beyond music from activities, workshops, and experiences.
Our goal is to build on the framework of this year and into future years.

DIVING DEEP W/ YOKO

  1. What’s one artist you’re grateful for that has inspired you to be where you are today and why?

I am insanely grateful for Mr. Bill and all the content he creates to teach other producers. Over the years his video tutorials have taught me how to build the core sonic concepts for the Yoko project, and his music alone inspires me beyond measure. I’ll never miss a live set from him, what he brings to the table is just so refreshing and unique.

  1. If you could go back in time and start over given what you have learned in your career so far, what changes and approach would have done differently?

There’s truly not much I’d want to change if I could go back and restart, but if I did I would make sure to utilize my own voice from the start. It took me until just 8 months ago to start using my own spoken words, poetry, and vocal fx in my music. I’m not sure what I was afraid of but I would make sure to take advantage of it from the get go.

This artist has absolutely captivated listeners and this tune he’s adding to his repertoire fits perfectly with the number of other heaters on his discography. Definitely don’t sleep on this one because we are sure to hear it played out time and time again. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling the absolute stomper of a track “Check”, a certified bop.

“Check” is a song for anyone who is grinding from the basement and trying to make it to the top floor. If you want to be on the same level as other players in the game, you need to get your money up.”

What’s one cool fact about yourself/or your project that not many fans know about?

My current project HEXED is actually my second project. I rebranded after only a few releases on my first brand, which was my last name. I realized I was making music that did not represent who I am and I decided to distance personal life from my music. This helped me create a space to do whatever I want without any judgement from my peers.

If you could go back in time and start over given what you have learned in your career so far, what changes and approach would have done differently?

I would go back and solidify all of my branding elements before I started releasing any music. I had a general idea of what I wanted to do, but as I progressed, I realized many components were not as thought out as I intended. Things like color palette, brand values and symbols are all examples of things I had to reconsider as I went to create consistency.

  1. What has been the biggest difference you’ve noticed when first starting off as an artist vs now after experience playing events , doing releases etc?

There are several noticeable changes when evolving from fan to artist but just recently I was thinking of the back end power. Positions that handle tasks like site operations, spotify promo, and even day-to-day attention to multiple projects are often seen as non-existent to your every day raver. Once stepping into the business of music, I soon developed an appreciation for the ones keeping our peers safe and making everything possible for these projects to succeed and grow.

  1. What has been your favorite memory this far having been part of the EDM scene prior to successfully launching off as a reputable bass artist?

One memory I’ll never forget was back at Sunset Music Festival in the year 2015. My friends and I were about a year or 2 into the rave scene and I was sporting at least 11 merch items sold on Flosstradamus’ website at the time. I was sure to buy vip for this festival so i wouldnt miss a minute of their set due to the elevated platforms. Turns out my group knew every one of their songs and we collectively broke the vip rail, throwing us into the crowd where at least 20 other edm fans were there to pick us up and make sure we were ok. The all around respect for others in this scene kept me here. The adrenaline of those years fueled this addiction for writing music. Fast forward to this year; I’m honored to be performing on the same stage as this memory and look forward to seeing yall on Saturday May 28th 4-5pm at SMF in Tampa!
