nok nok Gets Wonky w/ New Track “Reach for the Lasers”

Bringing forth a new and infectious tune, California native producer, nok nok, has come out swinging with his latest release we have the pleasure of sharing with you all today, “Reach for the Lasers’. Evolving and building on his already upbeat sound, this track features the weird and wonky bassline that creates the perfect upbeat energy that will definitely have reaching for any lasers in sight. This one will surely have you nodding right along and make you want to keep it on repeat all summer long. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling nok nok’s track “Reach for the Lasers”, a certified bop.

“This song “Reach For the Lasers” has samples from a movie called “Human Traffic” about British rave culture in the late 90s. It’s kind of a classic. Some of the humor is a bit dated or raunchy, but it’s a cool look into the roots of electronic music and club culture. I highly recommend it for people who are into that kind of thing. This song doesn’t sound anything like the music from the movie, but that’s ok. One of the best things about electronic music, in my opinion, is that it’s always changing and evolving over time as new sounds and styles are developed or rediscovered.”

Who/what are the biggest inspirations in the music you create today?

My biggest musical inspirations are nature and lasers. If Celtic Druids had lasers and LEDS for their rituals, that’s the kind of energy I’m going for. Nature has all the cool sounds and feelings, and lasers give it that little extra je ne sais quoi. I’m really big into CloZee, Griz and Lane 8. For me to really follow another artist, I have to both love their music and how they conduct themselves in the industry, and for me those three humans are the pinnacle.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years and what’s your game plan to get there currently?

In five years I’ll probably be doing more or less exactly what I’m doing now, making some music and playing my flute on some big big sound systems. I’ll probably own a restaurant slash music venue with my wife and my sister and some friends by then if everything goes according to plan. I don’t want to give away too much, and obviously a lot can change, anything can happen, but I think that would be pretty cool at this point.

LØSTRONAUT Doubles DOwn w/ New Track “The Sound”

LØSTRONAUT Doubles DOwn w/ New Track “The Sound”

Continuing his mission to bring forth the spacey wubz we have come to love here at Headbang Society is Edmonton based producer, LØSTRONAUT with his latest slapper of a track “The Sound”. Not only does this track use its mid-tempo beats to create the otherworldly feel, its dark gritty atmosphere manufactures the unique UK grime style vocals and sound we can hear throughout this track. Its riddim style percussions and downright dirty bassline makes this track a heavy “unhinged” bass hit you absolutely do not want to miss. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling this banger “The Sound”, a certified bop.

“This is a tune I made, specifically trying to capture some more of the underground-typesounds I enjoy listening to and spinning. I ended up doing a lot of the sound design through post-processing which is pretty different from how I normally approach mysound design. Eventually I found a vocal that fit the mood I was trying to create, and the opening bar, “This is the sound” gave the song an identity, and tied the whole tune together.”

  1. If you could go back in time and start over given what you have learned in your career so far, what changes and approach would you have done differently?

I wouldn’t have taken so long to get into electronic music and expand my horizons. I used to be in a local punk band, and I spent so much of my late teens and early twenties feeling threatened that guitar music wasn’t as popular as it used to be. I had completely closed myself off to the type of music I’d end up having the most fun making, and I would’ve robbed myself of a lot less fun if I’d have been more open to it sooner.

  1. What has been your favorite memory this far having been part of the EDM scene prior to successfully launching off as a reputable bass artist?

There’s been so many. Going to my first festival and hearing bass music on PK for the first time and getting to see what the festival community’s all about. Getting to close down a warehouse party with one of my closest homies and accidentally playing straight through until 8:30 AM. Recently there was me getting to close down Friendzy Fest with Substitude and Kimati last year. And that’s just off the top of my head.

Undehfined Reaches New Lengths w/ “Anticipate” EP

Undehfined Reaches New Lengths w/ “Anticipate” EP

Here at Headbang Society, it is always exciting to see up and coming freeform bass artists reach new lengths with their projects. Today we are excited to share that east-coast producer, Phil Hubelbank, better known to many as Undehfined has done just this bringing forth his EP, Anticipate. This four track EP is a beautiful listen from start to finish, encompassing the perfect dose of both the heavy that this artist is known for, but also the more melodic side of this project that is not to be missed. Our premiere track today is the title track off this compilation, which brings forth the heaviest side, sets the tone for this entire journey, but also incorporates the melodies that provides the perfect soundscape to carry across this EP. All of these tracks bring amazing energy and beauty, and should definitely not be slept on! Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling the Anticipate EP, a certified bop.

“The Anticipate EP is mainly focused on telling a story through music. I had a blast creating this and the story behind it. I’m excited to hear how the EP is interpreted and received, as it’s a bit different than what I usually make.”

What kind of impact do you wish to have on the scene 1-2 years from now with your project?

I’m hoping to build a project that people resonate with on a deeper level. It may sound cliche, but the only way that we progress, whether as an individual or a community, is to be the change we want to see in the world. Don’t let the world you live in define you. I really hope to carry that message with me while creating a space where people are free to be who they are.

If there was one thing you could change for the betterment of society, what would it be and why?

The easy answer is world peace. But realistically, I think society could benefit greatly from a bit more empathy. You never really know what someone might be going through. It’s easy to get wrapped in our own world and forget that everyone deals with their own hardships every day. Treat those around you with kindness, always.

Maroc Takes to a “Hidden World” w/ New EP

Maroc Takes to a “Hidden World” w/ New EP

Being able to be transported just by the power of music is an amazing experience and finding artists that are able to do this is always our favorite. 27 year old producer, Maroc, brings forth his EP today entitled “Hidden World” that does exactly as it states, transports us from our reality to his hidden reality of sound. Featuring both a liquid DNB and an experimental bass track, this EP shows the multiple facets of this project and also explores new soundscapes never to be heard from this producer up until this point. Our premiere today, “Distance”, brings forth some absolutely beautiful liquid drum and bass that creates the perfect chill vibe to get you through the day. Maroc has definitely stepped out of his comfort zone for these two tracks, and has hit a home run, so don’t sleep on this EP. Let’s take a deeper dive into why we are calling “Distance” and the rest of the Hidden World EP, a certified bop.

“This EP is a little different from my norm, it includes 2 melodic based tracks that are extremely beautiful and will have you feeling all the Nostalgia. 1 of the tracks is a liquid dnb track and the other is a dubstep/experimental bass collab with Ecliptics & Brella. I wanted to explore some different sounds for this project, Stepping out of your comfort zone really helps with creativity so expect more stuff like this down the road :)”

If there was an artist you had the chance to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

This is such a tough question nowadays with all the new and upcoming talent in the scene, But for nostalgic reasons I’d have to say Zeds Dead. When I first got into listening to Electronic music, they really hit home for me. The day I collaborate with them is the day my dreams really come true with all this music stuff 🙂

If there was one thing you could change in the bass scene, what would it be and why?

Though bass music is thriving right now there’s definitely a few things that could be changed to make it even better. One of those things is smaller artists that are extremely talented getting more recognition. A lot of these Shows, Festivals and Labels recycle the same artists over and over again. Some day down the line, I’d love to create an outlet made only for the little guys, Something that would showcase the music they create and their live performances. I think this is something that would grow this scene massively and I hope one day I can make it happen.
